Is it Info commission or political rehalb centre!

Political links of the newly nominated Information Commissioners clearly envisages the vision of the ruling party to convert the information commission into a political rehabilitation centre. This has been the general feelings of the members belonging to Forum for Good Governance (FGG). The four commissioners nominated had a hasty oath taking in spite of a general reluctance, without even consultations with the opposition parties which is customary.

The new Commissioners are Varre Venkateswarlu, Thanthiya Kumari, Intiyaz Ahmad and M Vijaya Nirmala. However, FGG felt that the appointments against sections 15(3), (5) and (6) of Right to Information Act apart from being violation of the judgment delivered by Supreme Court in Namit Sarma Case.

A public interest litigation was filed by by K Padmanabhaiah, former Union home secretary and two others of the FGG over the issue. Among the four three had a distinct political past claim the petitioners.

Thanthiya Kumari was an active Congress sympathizer and had received immense support from three ministers for the post. On the other hand Intiyaz Ahmad and M Vijaya Nirmala contested elections on TDP and PRP party tickets, respectively in the past.

Under these circumstances with an active political past their appointment would only successfully turn the commission into a publicity vehicle. However the court posted the hearing to Monday.
