NGO files petition against government in SC

In a rare case, an NGO had filed a petition against the government in supreme court saying that the government is wasting tens of crores collected from the people as tax and squandering the same on advertisement. The NGO's petition against the government has asked the Supreme Court to stop such wastage of money. Foundation for the Restoration of National Values, an NGO, had taken the initiative to file a petition in the court.

In the past three years alone, the government had used over 58 crores of rupees merely for advertising. Regarding the details of the advertisements they said that over 15 crores was spent on Mahatma Gandhi, 12 crores on B R Ambedkar and over 11 crores was spent on Rajiv Gandhi it has stated.

It had also alleged that 22 crores were spent on advertisements for Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Rajiv Gandhi alone. In Andhra Pradesh, the government had utilized 8 crore rupees for the advertisements. The NGO had also termed this expenditures as 'unnecessary'.
