Punjab Youth Congress leader held with 5kg Opium

It would be a big embarrassment for the Youth Congress in Punjab as their Gidderbaha President was arrested by CIA police after he was found in possession of Opium.

The police recovered 5kg Opium from the checkpoint near Jangapura on Thursday that was set up after they were tipped about the information of opium being smuggled. The accused was elected recently in assembly polls as the Youth Congress president for the block.

He was supplying the opium to students, and farmers in and around Chandigarh. He smuggled opium from Rajasthan and brought it into Punjab via Bhatinda.

Opium worth Rs 4 Lakh was found in the car along with some pictures of prominent leaders of Congress. Two members Gurprit Singh, Congres youth block president, and Angrej Singh hailing from Mukatsar were arrested.

CIA police said, "Gurprit purchased the stash for Rs 70,000 a kilo and used to sell it for Rs 1,00,000 per kilo". A case has been registered by the police under the sections 18/25/61/85 of NDPS Act in Banur police station and other special teams have been deployed to search and raid close friends associated to Gurprit during his education, and others who are regularly in touch with him.
