Sonia sticks to guns, ignores revolt by Rawat

After the Congress high command has declared that party MP Mr Vijay Bahuguna would be the chief minister of Uttarakhand, it stuck to its guns ruling out changing the leader despite the revolt by Union Minister Harish Rawat who has resigned in protest.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs Mr Harish Rawat tendered his resignation saying the high command has overlooked him in the selection of the chief minister.

Party president Sonia Gandhi Monday night announced that Vijay Bahuguna would be the chief minister of Uttarakhand buy within hours Rawat sent in his papers objecting to the selection. Even today, some of the supporters of the minister staged a protest demonstration at his house in Delhi.

However, the congress high command is unfazed over the minister’s decision and protests by his supporters.

Meanwhile, Vijay Bahuguna said he would take oath first this evening and the other ministers would be inducted in three to four days after consultations with the party high command. (J)
