22 Pilgrims Killed As Bus Falls Into Bhagirathi River

22 Pilgrims Killed As Bus Falls Into Bhagirathi River:- In a tragic incident, atleast 22 pilgrims were killed when their bus fell into Bhagirathi river near Nalupani, Uttarakhand on late Tuesday evening.

The pilgrims were returning from Gangotri Shrine in the Himalayas. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Ashish Shrivastava said, at around 6 pm, the mishap occurred as the bus fell 300 metres down the road into the river. The rescue efforts by the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and police personnel under the supervision of the senior officials was continuing in darkness.

Shrivastava said at the time of the incident, there were around 29 pilgrims, mostly from Indore in the bus. Since May 12, on Chardham yatra, these pilgrims had already visited Yamunotri and Gangotri and were on way to Haridwar from where they had to go to Kedarnath.

22 Killed As Bus Carrying Pilgrims Plunges Into Bhagirathi River

An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next kin of the deceased was announced by Madha Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan expressed grief over the tragedy and ordered instructions for immediate help to the victims.
