Lock up with A+ amenities to be opened in New Year at Hazratganj Police Station

The Uttar Pradesh department plans to remodel the existing Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow. The cells will have an area of 150 sft (15x10) and can now accommodate nearly 30 inmates. The walls and the floor are tiled. The rooms are well ventilated says the Inspector, Vijay Prakash Singh. They also plan to have a western commode and a wash basin too.

The specially rebuilt rooms, whose budgets are undisclosed is set to be inaugurated on the New Year. This will be the first of its kind in the entire state. The motto behind the initiative is to ensure basic amenities to the inmates.

It may be noted the UP police department received a jolt when senior Uttar Pradesh police officer D.D. Misra openly said in November that Mayawati government to be the "most corrupt." But the poor old man, who dared to raise his voice, was put under psychiatric treatment at the Chattrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University. Later another IPS officer Amitabh Thakur has moved the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court claiming harassment by Kunwar Fateh Bahadur, Principal Secretary, Home and Vijay Singh, Secretary to the Chief Minister. In a bid to make a change over of the departmental image, the UP government has tried various innovative ways.
