An earthquake of a magnitude of 5.8 on Richter scale rocked the Kashmir valley today, forcing people to rush out of their buildings with fear. The tremor was felt across whole of the valley and reports said that people in some parts of Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Jaipur also experienced the tremors.
The tremor took place at 1520 IST and lasted for three seconds. The earthquake sent shivers down the spines of Kashmir people as they still remembered the loss of lives and property during the 2005 quake that devastated most areas of the valley.
Officials said that the epicenter of the quake was traced to the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan. Fortunately, there are no reports of loss of life or property following the quake.
