WE ARE FAMILY

WE ARE FAMILY is about a family which is required to have a man (Arjun Rampal), his three kids, his ex-wife (Kajol) and his girlfriend (Kareena Kapoor) brought together under the same roof due to the demand of the situation. How these family members cope up with the new developments in their lives is what forms the crux of WE ARE FAMILY. With a plot like this, one expects an out and out serious outing. However, producer Karan Johar insists that the film does have its light moments that keep the drama fluid.

"The film by no means is melodramatic. Yes, it does have its dose of sensitivity and drama but then there are several light moments as well that compliment the fluctuating mood in the narrative. While emotions move you, light moments end up bringing a smile on your face", says Karan, "It is a very touching film and there is an inherent sensitivity that Siddharth has brought in which unfailing keeps you involved. WE ARE FAMILY is a crisp two hour long film and doesn't have a single dry moment."

Maya (Kajol) is the perfect mother. Her life revolves around her three children, Aleya (Aanchal Munjal), Ankush (Nominath Ginsburg), and Anjali (Diya Sonecha), who think nothing less than the world of her. Despite being divorced from her husband,Aman (Arjun Rampal) Maya has ensured that everything runs smoothly in her house, under her watch, and that they continue to remain a happy family unit. However, when Aman introduces his girlfriend. Shreya (Kareena Kapoor) a career oriented woman, who has a lot to learn about children, to the family, the situation immediately takes an unexpected turn. When an incident changes their lives drastically, bringing the two women under the same roof, they find themselves putting to test an unusual siwation; can two mothers make a home?

Forced to make some unorthodox choices for her family, Maya must confront her uneasy equation with Shreya and find a way to bring everyone together, despite their differences, to make them a family once again.

Can they make a happy home and proudly say... WE ARE FAMILY!

CHECK OUT: Karan Johar avoids trouble

He sounds pretty confident about the film for the reason that not many films belonging to this genre are being churned out in Bollywood today.

"I guess the last film which came close to being a family outing was PAA. Before that, the only quintessential family film was BAGHBAN which was quite a while ago", ponders Karan, "This is the kind of film that works instantly with ladies. And when ladies watch such films, they do bring in their spouses and children along. It is a win-win situation for us."

There aren't many surprises in the promo for Karan Johar's Stepmom remake, the Hollywood tearjerker clearly choosing to put a fun foot forward instead.

Taking its title from Sister Sledge's hit song, Siddharth P Malhotra's We Are Family stars Kareena Kapoor and Kajol in the roles made famous by Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon in the Chris Columbus original.

The trailer starts with Kareena chirpily telling her stepchildren that they won't be going to school today, a balloon Kajol wastes no time in hysterically popping. We then see a bubblegum montage of moments of conflict between the two leading ladies, surprisingly sparing with the high melodrama the film obviously contains.

Arjun Rampal steps into Ed Harris' shoes and really leaves the film to the ladies, who both seem ready to amp it up.

Kajol, appearing hysterical and more than a trifle unhinged, seems content to let her lack of makeup do the talking, while Kareena, a far more assured actress, seems to be revelling in a role this meaty not to mention the chance to show up that other K woman.

The weird bits of the promo are how completely unreasonable Kajol's character seems to be, and the sudden dose of happy song-dance madness, culminating in both ladies sporting matching hats as they dance on stage.

The trailer's best moment comes at the end when Rampal asks his young son how difficult it'll be living with all these girls. 'Tell me about it,' says the kid, 'and now you've gone and gotten one more. It's such a mess.'

'Eat your food,' Rampal deadpans back. This could just be fun after all.
