What Kolaveri means?

Earlier, a slang in Tamil, `Kolaveri Di’ is now the craze of the youth. As per reports this song was sneaked into the social networking circuit by unknown miscreants, but later was released by the producers as a single track ceremoniously. May it could be that the Superstar Rajnikanth’s Son-in-law Dhanush has sung it himself for his upcoming flicker`3’ or it could be the mood of the song which actually depicts the anguish of a person who has just tasted rejection from the hands of a girl whom he liked or the music fusion or … anything else. But right now a hot property of the youth. In fact in less than a day, the song has got more than a million hits on YouTube and so far has registered 4,052,189+ hits.

The Tanglish (mixing English+ Tamil) lyrics have found much familiarity with the Tamil youth, the music with global audience and the Dhanush rendering with his fans base. Most probably the sneaking was a blessing in disguise for the song. The beat is hypnotic.

Dhanush humbly admits `my poor broken English lyrics, written in a silly tone, and borderline singing has proved to be advantageous for the success of this song.’ The lyricist and singer admitted that `It feels nice when people are open with their praise for your work. I honestly didn't think the song would be such a craze. This has made me realize that people universally want only simple lyrics and simpler tune from filmmakers.’

Meanwhile, he is very happy with the comments he has been getting from some of the biggest names in the industry. `It was nice of Amitabh Bachchan to listen to our song and congratulate us for it. My father-in-law, Rajinikanth, is equally thrilled,’ he continued.

One of the media writers cousin an NRI from the US, commented, `the bottom-line, however, is that entertainment can be satisfying without being relentlessly intellectual. Fans of the song are perfectly happy to code-switch between pleasure states.Being cool has partly to do with being able to chill. We don’t need a brilliant Martin Scorsese movie, we’re happy with Rajini (and his son-in-law); we’re happy to bond with our friends, and feel connected to our roots.’
