Delhi Police on Thursday have told the media that the money that was allegedly paid to Sreesanth of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL for the spot-fixing incidents in the match against Mumbai, Rs 5.5 lakhs was seized and recovered. He was promised Rs 10 lakhs of which the remaining money was spent on parties, presents and Rs 75,000 was seized initially.

The recovery was done in Mumbai at the instance of Abhishek Shukla, who was arrested for allegedly removing money and articles of Sreesanth soon after the cricketer's arrest in May 16. The quest to find the money passed down to Sreesanth is now complete with this information. Earlier the Mumbai Police had recovered Rs 75,000 and the Delhi police found that he spent around Rs 3.75 lakh for purchases and parties.

An event manager and his friend Jiju Janarthan were charged with section 201 causing disappearance of evidence. Later he helped the police in recovering the hidden purchases and money.

The police said, “Shukla has allegedly hidden the remaining amount belonging to Sreesanth as well as Jiju Janardhan, the cricketer's friend. Soon after Sreesanth's arrest, Jiju made a call to Shukla asking to clean up Sreesanth's room”.

The spot-fixing is not about the money lost or gained but about the lost honor that will never return to the now tainted IPL. The fame and the interest that the series brewed in the audience no longer holds its charm. With even the highest officials like the president of the BCCI N Srinivasan's son-in-law being involved in the mess, the board no longer has any credibility. N Srinivasan is making it tougher by doggedly holding on to the throne despite repeated attempts by various members and the cricketing associations asking him to step down.
