Clijsters ends tennis singles career

Twenty-nine-year old Beljium tennis player, Kim Antonie Lode Clijsters-who is a former world number 1 in both singles and doubles-and who has 41 WTA titles, 11WTA doubles titles and four grand slam titles-shocked everyone with by announcing that she would retire after US Open. She even said that the end of her tennis career would not arrive so soon. Now, would have made Kim Clijsters take this decision has been becoming debate among sports buffs. Even when she said dasvidaniya (final good bye) to tennis, Kim Clijsters never lost her million dollar smile, which she maintained all through her events.

Belgian injured in the first period of retirement (when she took a long off for delivering a baby, Jade Elle in 2008). And now, she even lost the third round of US Open to Laura Robsens. In fact, Laura said she felt bad for beating in her finals' single appearance. It may be noted that Clijsters wanted to say good bye to the career in a style by clinching fifth major title. The 18-year-old Robsens felt Clijsters was still the best player of the world and said it was she (Clijsters) who brought so much fame to the female tennis. Therefore, she said it was tough to imagine that Clijsters would retire and wished her all the best.

In her last singles, Clijsters chased her fifth title in New York, which she lost way back in 2003. But, fortune didn't favour this Beljium tennis player as Robens beat her this time.  Clijsters recalls, when she lost the same title in 2003, the current opponent-who beat her in 2012-was just nine years old then. Although Clijsters was in control until 5-2 in the first second, her opponent Robson overpowered her slowly and finally defeated her with a score of 7-6, 7-7.

The sports buffs said undoubtedly, for Robens, this victory was something, which would remain as a milestone in her career since she not only defeated the former world number one but overpowered her in her last singles. Nonetheless, Clijsters can still wrap up her career in style as doubles (her final doubles) is yet to come.  Talking about the game, Clijsters said that she felt a bit frustrated as the game begun and was disappointed too. But then she finally said she was happy over her retirement in singles. She's currently focused on doubles. Lets hope that Clijsters come out with flying colors in her last doubles.
