Aussies put Lanka, India on top

Former Australian players are not very confident of their team lifting the ensuing cricket World Cup and they foresee Sri Lanka as potential winners. They feel that along with Sri Lanka, Ian Healy, Interview to ‘Daily Telegraph’, Cricket world cupIndia is also better placed in the tournament.

Former wicket keeper of the Australian team Ian Healy said in a ‘Daily Telegraph’ interview that India and Sri Lanka can exploit the pitch conditions better than any other participating team and it would be very difficult for any team to face the challenge they would throw.

“In between the two, Sri Lanka is better placed,” he said adding that Australia doesn’t see the pitches as favourable to it. Healy visualizes Sri Lanka as a possible winner of the trophy.  “Veteran off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is playing in his last tournament and he wants to make his participation surely a memorable one,” he said.
Explaining further, Healy said that India and Sri Lanka would be a pair for semi finals and there would be fierce battle among England, South Africa, Australia and Pakistan for the other two spots in semi finals.

Echoing the sentiments, former Australian captain Mark Taylor is of the strong opinion that Australia may be good enough to make the semifinals but it would be difficult for it to go beyond.

It would be a pleasure to watch India and probably Sri Lanka playing some good cricket on their home pitches, he said.
