Kolkata Knight Riders Take Over KXIP By 8 wickets At Eden Gardens, Kolkata

The two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders took over, Kings XI Punjab in the 11th match of the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, yesterday.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to field. They made three changes to their side while Kings XI Punjab included IShant Sharma in place of T Natarajan.

Gautam Gambhir was in his elements too, as he steered his side to victory and stayed unbeaten on 72. Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey also lent good support. It was a completely flavorless bowling performance by the visiting team. They lost the plot very early in the chase when Sunil Narine never recovered. This is their first defeat of the season and they would look to come back on track in their next game.

Glenn Maxwell opines that he was not surprised after seeing Sunil Narine open as he saw the same in the Australian T20 League. Conveys that they batted well but the over where they lost three wickets cost them too much. Maxwell ended by saying that they will have a talk before regrouping for their next game against Delhi Daredevils.

Manan Vohra helped Kings XI Punjab off to a good. Along with Hashim Amla he added 53 runs for the opening wicket in 31 balls. Sunil Narine may have had a good day with the bat and ball, but was abysmal in the field. He dropped catches and misfielded. Unfortunately for Trent Boult, they were all of his bowling. Hashim Amla got off to a good start and scored some beautiful boundaries, but became scratchy after the Powerplay overs. Glenn Maxwell carried on from where he had left. Piyush Chawla got clobbered for a few, before he was eventually dismissed by Umesh Yadav for a 15-ball 24.

David Miller and Wriddhiman Saha put on a 57-run stand for the fifth wicket off 32 balls to set up Kings XI Punjab's innings superbly, but departed off successive deliveries. Umesh Yadav bagged three wickets in the 18th over to derail Kings Xi Punjab's innings and restrict them to 170. His bowling figures of 4 for 33 is the best in the season so far. In a surprising move, Sunil Narine was sent in to open the innings with Gautam Gambhir. The West Indian took on the Kings Xi Punjab bowlers and hammered a 18-ball 37 - his highest T20 score. Also, he put on a 76-run stand for the opening wicket in only 34 balls

Gautam Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders chase with a fine unbeaten 49-ball 72. The hosts began their campaign on a winning note, chasing down the target with eight wickets in hand.

Clinical batting performance by KKR, as they chased down the target of 171 in just 16.3 overs with captain Gautam Gambhir leading the charge with an unbeaten 72 off 49 balls. Sunil Narine scored 37 off 18 deliveries while with the ball Umesh Yadav returned 4-0-33-4. This is the eighth straight victory for KKR over KXIP.
