Night operations suspended in Vizag Airport:- The personnel at the airfield declared that they would be providing more services due to the decision taken. The airport serving the city will suspend its services from the night of November 15, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. GVL Narasimha Rao, a member of the Rajya Sabha from BJP, conversed with the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, about the closure of the Visakhapatnam airport runway starting from November 15 for the purpose of resurfacing. Last month, he was granted a meeting with both the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane to solicit a reduction of the Visakhapatnam airport runway closure duration.

The ENC Chief explained that the Visakhapatnam airfield does not have a parallel taxi track like the bigger airports, and this is why the surfacing operations at the airport take longer than other defence airports. Narasimha Rao expressed worries that the night closure had caused three flights from Visakhapatnam airlines to be canceled. The ENC Chief responded to this by informing him that there were time slots available during the day for more flights to occur and that they were ready to assign additional personnel in Air Traffic Control (ATC) to help increase the number of flights during the daytime.

The Member of Parliament also requested the Executive Director of Civil Aviation to hold dialogues with all the involved parties in order to enhance the number of flights and to create understanding among the public and business people concerning the necessity of shutting down the runway for refurbishment works.
