May records the second highest rainfall in 121 years:- May 2021 received the second-highest ever rainfall in the last 121 years in the country as per the reports from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The news has been released as per the monthly report from the IMD. Two back-to-back cyclones and western disturbances brought enough rainfall in the month of May. The average maximum temperature reported in the country is said to be 34.18 degrees celsius for the month of May which is said to be the fourth lowest in the country since 1901. The lowest ever temperature reported in May is said to be 32.68 degrees in the year 1917. As per IMD, there was no heat wave across the country in May this year.

The entire rainfall reported in May 2021 in India is said to be 107.9 millimeters which is 74 percent more than the Long Period Average (LPA) of 62 mm. "Rainfall over India during the month of May was second-highest since 1901. The ever highest rainfall occurred in the year 1990 (110.7mm)," told IMD in a statement. May this year saw cyclones that are formed in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Cyclone Taukte was formed in the Arabian Sea and it hit the coast of Gujarat on May 17th. Cyclone Yaas was formed in the Bay of Bengal and it turned severe after which it hit the Odisha coast on May 26th. All the states across the eastern and western coasts received huge rainfall because of these cyclones. Rajasthan saw a severe heatwave on May 29th and 30th. The rest of the country was not much hot in the month of May.
