Bengaluru Police Conducts Raids At Former Corporator’s Residence; Crores Of Demonetized Notes Found

A series of raids, were carried on today, at the office and residence of Ex-corporator V Nagraj alias Bomb Naga, a former rowdy-sheeter, by the Bengaluru Police.

The warrant was issued after after a kidnapping case, complaint against him. According to reports, a stash of demonetized currency notes totaling Rs 25 crores in value, were found, and the notes are still being counted. Police suspect that the former rowdy could posses close to Rs 100 crore. At the time of search, Nagraj was not at home, following which the police broke the lock and searched the premises.

The complainant, was kidnapped on the pretext of showing a piece of land to him, and he was called to a particular place. He was later kidnapped from that place. The kidnappers also took away all his money. However, they later released him on ransom, and threatened him not to file any police complaint.

Nagaraj, a former Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) corporator, is said to have been running a “black and white” business of money laundering. The police raided his residence, following information of his involvement in money laundering, after demonetization. So far crores of rupees have been found in his possession, while search for more money is underway. Nagaraj is also suspected of being involved in multiple incidents of kidnapping and extortion. All the money found in his possession were in demonetized Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

Demonetized Currency

The police who arrived at his residence, as early as 5 am, had to break into the house after those living inside refused to let them in. They cut open a lock and grill to enter the house. Money was found stashed in many bags. The police who entered the three storied building were stopped by women who occupied a house on the second floor. Women constables from nearby police stations were brought in to handle the women.

Additional Commissioner of Police Hemant Nimbalkar, said, “On complaint of kidnapping for ransom and robbery, the East division of Police of Bengaluru city, conducted search and seizure operation here against V. Nagraj and as per the orders of honourable court, we have conducted the raid.”

“We have recovered some old currency and the counting is still going on. At the same time, sharp edged weapons and some documents pertaining to property are also recovered. The investigation will draw light that for what reason such a huge amount of cash was there especially of old currency, and the way he kept the currency is also suspicious. Investigation is still on,” he added.

Nagraj, contested the Assembly elections from the Gandhinagar constituency, in 2004, against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president Dinesh Gundurao, wherein he lost the elections with a margin of 500 votes.
