Rats trained to sniff the land mines

To sniff out the land mines, Cambodia is going to train the rats that are imported from Africa.

From Tanzania, a group of 15 rats, a few of them weighing more than 2 1/2 pounds, are imported in April.

Cambodia officials are training an elite squad of rats, imported from Africa, to sniff out the land mines. Belgian non-governmental organization, which trains rats for this purpose, is supporting the Cambodia team.

Rats can read the thoughts of others

Through a brain to brain interface, the studies proved that, the rats can connect and communicate to one another. They can even read the thoughts of the fellow rats.

"If the rats pass the test, we will use them... if they are not qualified, we will end the program," Ratana told AFP.

There were several instances in the past, especially in the countries like Tanzania, Mozambique and Angola, where the rats are successful in sniffing the land mines as well as detect tuberculosis.

Currently, the rats would pass the several tests regarding whether it can withstand in sensing all types of mines, especially the mines that are buried and how fast, they detect them.
