YSR Remembered Today

Former Chief Minister of AP, YS Rajasekhara Reddy was born on 8th July at Pulivendula, Kadapa District.

He was one of the most popular Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh,

1. To cover the State on foot for the first time.

2. To bring Congress party to rule defeating the regional Telugu Desam Party founded by NT Rama Rao in 2004 and also to continue in the elections in 2009.

3. He introduced many welfare schemes that made him popular in the State.

YSR was killed in the helicopter crash on 2nd September 2009 in the Nallamala forest area.

YSR held the Ministries of Rural Development, Excise and Education in the Congress Government before TDP came to rule.  He was leading the Congress party as opposition party in the State during the period from 1999 to 2004.  Then he became the Chief Minister of the State between 2004 till he met with the accident in 2009.

The shock of his death was so intense among his fans that about 122 people died State wide either out of the shock of hearing the news of his death or by committing suicide over his death.

Although he served Congress party for a long time and was instrumental in Congress party’s coming back to power in the State, he is remembered by the YSR Congress party more than Congress Party because of the political enmity between these two parties.  YSR Congress Party is founded by his son YS Jaganmohan Reddy by leaving Congress party after the death of YSR.

Many Telugu fans of YSR residing all over the globe are celebrating YSR’s 64th birth day.
