Multiplexes changed Cinema concept!

Indian Cinema with special reference to Telugu Cinema has always had a glorious past. Right from movies such Pather Panchali to Shankarabharanam, there were many movies that won critical acclaim across the globe. Slowly the cinema trend slipped from such classics to commercials where people boasted of 100 days, 200 days and so on. But, it looks like this trend too is changing.

Money and collections might certainly be matter of the interest to those behind silver screens, but certainly not to audiences who are fans of either actors or directors. But the word collections is now entering into books of many fans too. Yes, true it is. People who used to feel proud that their favourite star's film used to play for 100 days and so, are now blowing trumpets on collections the movie is making.

Whatever the big star movie it could be, maximum number of days that it's going to be played in theatre/multiplex next to you is barely 25 days. And it doesn't mean that the movie is not making money on par with 100 day films. There are many movies that are making box office collections but why these movies are not being screened till 100 days?

Reason:

Earlier, a movie used to get released only in minimum theatres. For instance, if there were four theatres in your vicinity, only one theatre used to play your recently released movie. The situation is other way around. Apart from regular theatres, multiplexes came up, which have over dozen shows. So, first two weeks, these multiplexes run the recently released movie over half a dozen times in a day. Also, earlier not all used to get a chance to get a ticket in first three weeks for a big movie due to too much jostling at box office. But now, due to availability of many theatres and online booking provision, almost everyone is getting chance to watch a big movie within three weeks. So, even if a movie is screened after that, no one would probably come to watch it. That's the reason why movies are not running over three weeks now.

Anyway, this is also a good move as it not only gives quick money to film unit but also ensures that everyone gets a chance to watch the movie within days after its release.
