FASTag made Mandatory from Today Midnight:- The Indian government made it mandatory for all the four-wheelers in the country for FASTag. The rule will be implemented from the midnight of today. All the fee plazas on the national highways of India are declared as FASTag lanes as per the statement from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Any four-wheeler with out FASTag is not valid and will be charged double the toll starting from today midnight as per the NH Fee Rules 2008. FASTag was introduced in 2016 but some of them have been objected as it took time for the vehicles to take FASTag. Though January 1st was the deadline, it was pushed to today.

Category M stands for a four-wheeled motor vehicle for carrying passengers. Category N stands for a four-wheeled motor vehicle for carrying goods or people. FASTag uses radio-frequency identification (RFID) which automatically deducts the toll charges at all the NHAI toll plazas. FASTag is linked to the savings or the current account of the customer and it can be recharged online. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that there would be no extension of the deadline for FASTag. He asked the vehicle owners to adopt the e-payment facility.

Most of the new vehicles are sold with FASTags. They are also available at the toll plazas. There are some people who complained of technical errors as the money is not deducted from their FASTag despite of having the balance. The Minister said that these issues would be resolved very soon and the NHAI is working on it.
