Lightning Strikes in AP, killed 20 people

Due to a lightning strike in a few of the areas in Andhra Pradesh, due to the heavy rains, a minimum of 20 people, were killed yesterday. 

On Sunday, there are sudden heavy rains in the dual Telugu states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. However, the rains in Andhra Pradesh gave a serious effect on the public. An unknown lightening struck, took away 20 lives in the state.

Krishna, Guntur, East Godavari, Prakasam and Nellore districts in Andhra Pradesh, had to face these incidents. Out of which, six people were killed in Prakasam district, five in Nellore district, four in Krishna district, two each in Guntur and East Godavari districts.

District-wise deaths due to Lightning Strikes

Out of the six killed in Prakasham district, three were women and another four were injured due to the lightning in separate incidents. Out of the three died women, two were died, when the bolt struck them, while working in a cotton field, while the other victims included two farmers from Channareddypalli and Muppalla villages, a 27-year-old man from Chavatapalem, and a borewell operator died in Vemulkota village.

Coming to Nellore, a father and son duo, were struck by bolt in Venkatachalam mandal, under Nellore rural sub-division. In the past, Nellore already experienced lightning strike deaths.    

The lightning took away four agricultural labourers in Krishna district, including a woman, while they were working in open field. They are identified as Siva (24), Sarojini (35), Giri (55) and Gunju Jangalu (38).

In Guntur, again 2 people, Bandaru Ananda Rao (54) and Rambabu (46) were killed, while working in the agricultural field. In the same district, the women cricketers of Andhra Pradesh and Tripura ACA stadium in afternoon, ran away quickly, when lightning struck, while they are playing a match. A tree outside the ACA Academy building caught fire after it was hit by the lightning bolt.    
       
Finally, B Surayakantham (60) of Dwarapudi village and Adapa Subbarao (70) of Mandapeta were killed in East Godavari district, while they were returning home, from their work in the evening.      
However, Reacting to the issue, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his condolences to all the victims’ families and also announced Rs. 4 lakh ex-gratia to the families of the victims, killed in lightning.
