Can prepare and sell own beer in Telangana

Along with the regular developmental programmes in Telangana, the government is even making innovative proposals in excise department too.

The Telangana government has permitted to set up microbreweries in the state. These micro breweries will produce different kinds of beer like wheat beer, dark beer, stouts and porters.

The process is already being carried on in several states of the country. On Friday, the Telangana government gave its nod for the first time. Along with Hyderabad, the microbreweries will be set up in various parts of the state.

The microbrewery installed capacity shall not exceed 1,000 bulk litres per day. That amount will be a combination of both normal beer and draught beer. The said draught beer will not be bottled, but served only in glasses. A beer manufactured in microbrewery should be consumed within 36 hours, as that is the shelf life of the product.

Who can set up a microbrewery?

The people who are interested to set up a microbrewery, should submit an application with a challan fee of Rs.5000. 200 sq.mts parking area will be provided regarding this.

In the first stage, these plants will be permitted to be set up in the places within the GHMC limits and 5km outside the limits and also at the tourist spots. The license fee for each shop shall be Rs.3 lakhs per year. For this, the licensee should furnish a security deposit of Rs.1 lakh in the shape of Bank Guarantee/Fixed Deposit Receipt/ Cash issued by any scheduled Bank in the name of Excise Commissioner.

On the other side, the oppositions recently protested against the cheap liquor introduction of Telangana in place of Gudumaba. Now the way they receive this proposal is yet to be known.
