Raje in more trouble, signed documents surface

The Bharatiya Janata Party appeared to be cornered on Wednesday evening when the Congress has released copies of a seven-page document signed by Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje supporting former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi’s immigration to the U.K.. The call for her resignation has become louder and louder.

“Our Ministers do not have to resign. This is not their [Congress] government. This is NDA government,” Home Minister Rajnath Singh said after a Union Cabinet meeting.

Sources in the BJP said that the party has asked Mrs Raje to explain the signed affidavit, spokesperson Sambit Patra said "the authenticity of the document has yet to be established."

"The curtains are off, the secret is out. The document signed by Vasundhara Raje dated August 18, 2011 supporting his immigration case before the British government is out. When the issue came out first, she feigned ignorance and then said she does not remember," senior party leader Jairam Ramesh told at the AICC briefing.

"BJP has always maintained that if papers are produced with her signature, then she is culpable. There is no need of any more evidence, Vasundhara Raje stands thoroughly exposed," Ramesh said.

"She should immediately resign. It should be followed by the resignation of Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and HRD Minister Smriti Irani," he said.

"The PM who used to speak so much on these issues one year back has been silent and has gone into a shell," he said.

“Let the authenticity of the documents be proved. The government is doing its work on black money,” BJP secretary Shrikant Sharma said. “The Congress is acting in frustration because it lost the election due to widespread corruption. They are just trying to hit back,” he added.

When Lalit Modi submitted Mrs Raje's document in a UK court, the Congress-led UPA coalition was in power, he had fled to London amidst a series of corruption cases linked to him, as chief of the Indian Premier League and his passport had been cancelled by India.
