Myanmar Hot Pursuit: Tit for Tat for Militants

Indian Army and Air Force jointly carried out surgical operations across Myanmar Border early on Tuesday and gunned down several militants. Two camps of northeastern insurgent groups are completely annihilated.

Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, while talking to the media said that the “Hot Pursuit” is Prime Minister Modi’s call and it can be seen as a hit back to the last week’s deadly ambush in Manipur.

"This message is now very clear for all those who harbored intentions of terror on our country," he said.

Army’s Special Forces, including 21 Para (SF) and Para commandos with the help of Mi-17 helicopters and Assam Rifles performed surgical strikes into the neighboring country, where the militants had fled to.

Major General Ranvir Songj said today's operations followed "very credible and specific intelligence" that the militants were planning to carry out more attacks.

Militants belonging to People's Liberation Army (PLA), United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) have been reportedly killed.

The Army has said it is "in communication with Myanmar authorities and look forward to working with them to combat terrorism."

The operation had begun at 3am, but the Indian ambassador could pass on the information to Myanmar's foreign ministry only after their offices opened at regular hours on Tuesday morning.
