Journalist Khushwant Singh passes away

The grand old man of Indian literature, Khushwant Singh has died at 99 this afternoon at his residence in Sujan Singh Park in New Delhi. Mr Singh was born on February 2, 1915, in Hadali, now in Pakistan's Punjab. He will be laid to rest at the Lodhi Road crematorium at 4 PM.

Mr. Singh was popularly known for his satires on politicians and a gifted author. "Train to Pakistan", "I Shall Not Hear the Nightingale" and "Delhi - A Novel" are some of the best classics from his pen.

Khushwant Singh was nominated to the Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1986. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1974 but returned it in the year 1984 in protest of operation blue star.  In the year 2007, government of India awarded him Padma Vibhushan.
