An Assamese woman Bonti Chutia kissed Rahul Gandhi when he visited Jorhat in his election campaign in Assam on Wednesday while he was addressing women congress workers.  She was a ward member of Bekajan village panchayat.  

As reports say she had a heated argument with her husband over the incident of kissing Rahul Gandhi.  Then her husband set her afire.  Then her husband Someswar Chutia set fire to himself.  Bontia succumbed to burn injuries while getting treatment from Dibrugarh Medical College Hospital which is 130 kilo meters from Jorhat.  Someswar Chutia is still in critical condition with 60% burn injuries.  

But there are different versions of the incident.  Police say that it did not happen because of kissing Rahul Gandhi.  Assam DGP says that she was only among the women but she was not the one who kissed Rahul Gandhi.  But her husband who mistook the incident had an altercation with Bontia.  

Some say that she was not in the group of women at all out of whom a woman kissed Rahul Gandhi.  

The incident of kissing happened when he was speaking to the women group and he was found surprised seeing two women approaching him.  One kissed on his cheek and one on his forehead.  He also shook hands with other women.  All this was telecast live by the TV Channels.  

After the event was over Rahul praised the women of North East telling that they are more talented than others and they have ability to become Chief Minister and Prime Minister.  

But, unfortunately the incident took life of a person and other one is fighting with death.
