CM urges National status for projects

The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy who is touring the West Godavari District for launching the 'Indiramma Baata' was at Polavaram. He spoke to a gathering of party activists and beneficiaries of the 'Indiramma Baata' at the village. He spoke at length of the 'Indiramma Baata' and also said that he would urge the central government to give national status to irrigation projects. The CM further explained that projects like Polavaram, Pranhita-Chevella projects would fall in line. He also assured the people that the Land controversies and the compensations would be accorded fairly for the displaced villagers.

The multi-crore Polavaram Project that provides thousands of hectares with water had been embroiled in various controversies. Even a  study by an in international non-profit research and development organization questioned the fundamental basis on which the project was designed. The project was designed on the estimation that since the Godavari river has surplus water, it will be transferred to the water-deficit Krishna basin.
