No respite for Sri Lakshmi in mining case

The incarcerated former bureaucrat Sri Lakshmi bail plea was postponed by two weeks. The Administrative Officer arrested in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) case involving the former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, was differed by the High Court. The apex court admitted the bail plea and after the council for the bureaucrat detailed the reasons, postponed the counter arguments to further two weeks.

CBI alleged that the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official, the fourth accused in the case, favored OMC by granting iron ore license when she was secretary in charge of mines in the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government. The investigating officers claim to have evidence that Sri Lakshmi granted iron ore mining lease for 68.5 hectares at Obulapuram in Anantapur district to OMC in violation of rules.

The 1988 batch officer, the wife of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer M. Gopalakrishna, is facing charges of criminal breach of trust by a public servant, criminal conspiracy and cheating. The case against OMC was registered in 2009 for illegal mining in Anantapur district bordering Karnataka. (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
