5 injured in Bangkok triple blasts

Triple serial bomb explosions ripped through a busy thoroughfare in Bangkok today injuring five persons. All the explosions took place in the busy Phrakhanong area of the Thailand capital.

Police later said the explosions occurred as an Iranian threw grenades and in one of the explosions his legs blew off due to the impact. The suspected Iranian threw one of the grenades at a shop rented by him and another at a taxi. The third explosion occurred when he threw the grenade at police officers who tried to catch him.

Explaining about the explosions, police said the Iranian blew up his shop first and then came running away onto a road and tried to take a taxi ride. When taxis refused to stop for him, he threw a grenade at one of the taxis.

Observing this, some locals and police officers chased him and tried to catch him. He then threw another grenade towards them but the grenade exploded hitting a tree next to him and blowing off his both legs.

He was then immediately taken to a nearby hospital and doctors have been treating him on an emergency basis.
Police found a local hotel bill in his wallet and identified him as Saeib Morabi. Hotel employees told police that he had registered as an Iranian national.

Thailand Government had confirmed the arrest of Saeib Morabi and asked Iran to cooperate with them in the investigation.

Israel and the United States had already warned their citizens to be alert during their stay in Bangkok as Iranian terrorists have planned attacks on US and Israel targets. Only yesterday, terrorists blew off the Israel Embassy car in Delhi while police defused explosives in Georgia.

In both cases, Iranian hand was suspected by the authorities. (JUBS)
