A lock up death has reportedly taken place at Kazipet police station of Kadapa district today.

Police said one Mr Gangulaiah of Chennur, arrested in a rape case, hanged himself with his lungi in the bath room. However, his relatives demonstrated before the police station alleging he was killed by the police.

“The police gave him third degree treatment after arresting him,” said his relatives who demanded a high level inquiry into the incident.

Earlier, police have taken him into custody on charges of allegedly raping a 15-year old minor on the Chennur bridge. “We simply questioned him on the allegations but he said he was going into bath room and then hanged himself with his lungi,” said police denying the charges.

Senior police officials have rushed to Kazipet to inquire into the matter and talk to the relatives of Gangulaiah. (JUBS)
