Din over Telangana, FDI forces adjournment of Parliament

As usual, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha failed to transact any business on the fourth day of their winter session today as opposition members disrupted the proceedings on the issues of FDI and Telangana.

While in the Lok Sabha the members of the Trinamool Congress, the Left and the BJP opposed the Cabinet’s nod to allow up to 51 percent foreign equity in multi-brand retailing and 100 percent in the single-brand format in the country, TRS members, TDP and Congress members of the Telangana region raised the issue of Telangana and demanded introduction of the T bill.

As a result, confusion prevailed in the house and Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House till Monday.

As soon as the Lok Sabha assembled, Trinamool Congress members demonstrated at the Speaker’s podium opposing the Government decision. They raised slogans against the approval for foreign equity and demanded the cancellation of the decision. Members of the Left and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also joined them in flaying the government’s decision.

Added to this, the two TRS members, TDP and Congress members of the Telangana region also raised slogans in favour of Telangana state holding placards. They demanded the government to introduce the Telangana bill in the parliament in the present session.

Amidst the prevailing din, Meira Kumar adjourned the house till noon first and then again till Monday with pandemonium continuing.

Opposition members also raised the issue of FDI in the Rajya Sabha and demanded the cancellation of the Government’s decision. Chairman Hamid Ansari adjourned the House as ruckus continued over the issue.
