Can Jagan avoid the inevitable?

YSR Congress party Chief Mr YS Jaganmohan reddy, shrewd as he is by nature, succeeded in diverting the attention of the public and media by announcing that CBI had called him only as a witness in the illegal mining case and not as an accused.

Speaking to reporters after coming out of a two-and-a half-hour questioning session at the CBI office today, Jagan said that he demanded the CBI officials to question Chandrababu Naidu also as they questioned him. “Chandrababu gave the mining lease to Gali Janardhan reddy in 2002 and he should be questioned,” said Jagan.

Jagan conveniently didn’t mention what actually transpired during the questioning by the CBI officials. He failed to reveal what were the questions put to him and what were the answers given by him. Media persons also failed to ask him about the questions put to him by the CBI officials.

Again, Jagan said Chandrababu also should be questioned in the similar manner as he was questioned. Does he want to convey that Chandrababu also should be called and interrogated as a witness as he claimed he was called only as a witness?

If that is true, it must be said that Chandrababu had no role to play in the illegal mining activity. Jagan also comfortably forgot the fact that the CBI investigation has nothing to do with the permissions given to Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) but the investigation is about illegal mining activity undertaken by Janardhan reddy.

Chandrababu gave license to Gali Janardhan reddy for mining only and not for illegal mining. Can any one deny this?

Why did Jagan try to divert the attention of the media and the public from the grilling undertaken by the CBI is the question to be answered. If Jagan was called only as a witness by the CBI as claimed by Jagan himself and his party leaders over the last two days, why did Jagan supporters turn up at the CBI office in hundreds?

Is it because the party had no control over its workers? Or the party leadership itself asked its activists to come in hundreds to the CBI premises to create a hullaballoo in case of an imminent arrest? The anarchic YSR Congress workers went to the extent of removing the CBI name plate from its office premises.

As Minister Anam Rama Narayana reddy said, Jagan behaved as if he had grilled the CBI officials and not the vice versa.

Going by this drama of sorts enacted by Jagan and his supporters, one has to believe the rumours that CBI actually wanted to arrest Jagan but backed out at the last moment as a large crowd was present outside its office.

Can Jagan, however, escape the inevitable even at a later date?
