Justice Chalameswar elevated to Supreme Court

ChalameswerMr Jasti Chalameswar, chief justice of the Kerala High Court, will be elevated to the Supreme Court. He belongs to the Pedamuttevi village of Krishna district in AP.

The Supreme Court has recommended the names of Justice Deepak Mishra, chief justice of the Delhi High Court and Justice Chalameswar to the Centre for their appointment as the judges of the apex court.

The president has already signed the file containing the names of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Mr KS Kehar, Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Mr SJ Mukhopadhyaya and Mumbai High Court Judge Ms Justice Ranjana Deshmukh who were recommended to be upgraded as the Supreme Court judges.

All the five judges will soon take over as the new judges of the apex court to fill the existing five vacancies. The Supreme Court has a total capacity of 31 judges.

Justice Chalameswar also worked as the chief justice of the Assam state prior to his transfer to Kerala. Mr Chalameswar was born on June 23, 1953 at Pedamuttevi in the Movva mandalam of Krishna district and became an additional judge of the AP High Court on June 23, 1997.
