The High Court today quashed the GO issued in 2008 by the then YSR government allotting 1000 acres of land for the Nagarjuna Construction Company to build 2600 MW thermal power station at Sompeta in Srikakulam district.
 
While quashing the GO, the high court directed the government to put on hold all further activity relating to the proposed thermal power station.

People in and around Sompeta led by some NGOs have been agitating against the construction of the thermal power station. Some of the NGOs opposing the project have approached the High Court seeking stay on the GO that allotted land to the Nagarjuna Construction Company.
