Centre clears Kovvada nuclear projectThe Centre had finally given permission to the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited to go ahead with the construction of the proposed biggest nuclear power plant in the country at Kovvada in Srikakulam district of AP after reviewing the security precautions in the wake of the tsunami-linked nuclear disaster in Japan.
 
The 10,000 MW third-generation nuclear power plant will be built with ultra-modern technology proving immunity from terrorist and missile attacks and earthquake and tsunami disasters.
 
The government has put on hold the project following protests by locals after nuclear mishap in Japan following an earthquake and tsunami. Now, the construction work will start with the Centre clearing the project.
