Illegalities mark Kalyanamasthu

Illegalities mark KalyanamasthuKalyanamasthu programme, ambitiously launched by the TTD administration a few years ago with a view to unite couples belonging to the middle classes and poor families with its own expenditure , has become a tool in the hands of some couples and persons for their selfish ends.

In the Kalyanamasthu conducted by the TTD today across the state, several instances of married couples getting married again, already married persons trying to tie the knot again with new brides, minor girls being given in marriage to old persons and child marriages have come to light stunning the temple authorities and organizers.

In Kalyanamasthu held at Karimnagar today, police arrested an already married man when he was found ready to tie the knot again to a woman called Sangeetha. The arrest followed complaints from his wife and in-laws.

In Khammam, an already married person turned himself into a bride groom and was about to tie the knot to a girl when police came over there. But the so called bride groom managed to escape from the police. In Adilabad too, similar instances have been reported.

There are allegations that minor girls not crossing even 15 or 16 years of age are being married to aged persons who have crossed even 40s and 50s.

In every edition of the Kalyanamasthu programme, the illegalities have been taking place repeatedly due to nonchalant attitude of the TTD administration in checking the antecedents of the couples coming forward for marriages.
