Gogai set to become CM for third term

Gogai set to become CM for third termCongress party, led by chief minister Tarun Gogai, was all set to assume power for a third consecutive term in Assam with the opposition making no headway in the counting trends.

Counting trends at 12.55 pm indicated that congress won in 1 seat and was leading in 75 seats, while AGP has established leads in 11 constituencies. The BJP was maintaining lead in just 5 constituencies.

Accepting the defeat, the opposition AGP and the BJP said they must respect the mandate of the people.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who looked high in his elements, said the people reposed their confidence in the congress for two reasons-economic development and peace in the state.

“My responsibility has increased now,” Gogoi said responding to the news that congress has been racing ahead in election results.

“I am committed to change the scenario of Assam. I will continue to give top priority to education and economic development of the people for creating more employment opportunities to the youth of the state,” Gogoi said. “Health gets top priority next.”

He said everyone thinks that Assam is a disturbed area but it is completely peaceful area compared to other states. The Congress has been in power in Assam since 2001.
