The trends and results in the counting in the five states where assembly elections were held indicate that the people of Tamil Nadu have finally shown the door to the corrupt DMK regime. In West Bengal, as everyone expected, the Left Front is on its way out as Trinamool Congress, led by the most popular Mamatha Banerjee, also known as Didi to the state people, is finding its way to the pedestal of power.

 

In Tamil Nadu, Jayalalitha is set to assume power as Chief Minster for the second time while in West Bengal Didi will assume the chief minister's mantle to lead the state ending decades of the Left Front rule.

 

In Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front is maintaining an upper hand steadily over the ruling Left Democratic Front led by CPI (M).

 

In Assam, the ruling Congress is all set to be emerging as the single largest party for a third successive term.   In Puducherry, DMK-led alliance was ahead in 10 seats while AIADMK was leading in five when reports last came in.
