Govt backtracks on gay sex, irks SC
With hours of informing the Supreme Court that the gay sex is highly immoral and goes against the social order of our country, the government today changed its stand and said the home ministry has not taken any stand on the issue so far.
Even before ASG Malhotra completed his arguments before the division bench consisting of Justices GS Singhvi and SJ Mukhopadhaya, a home ministry spokesperson had made a statement that the government has not yet taken a decision on the issue.
Immediately thereafter, another ASG Mohan Jain appeared before the bench and informed the court that the Home Ministry has asked him to convey to the court that the Centre has not yet taken any stand on the issue.
Earlier, appearing for the Home Ministry, Addition Solicitor General PP Malhotra, argued that gay sex is against social order and the Indian society cannot imitate the practices of the West. (JUBS)
