How an American lady taught a lesson to Autowala in Shudh Hindi July 04, 2015 13:40

Many of us had experienced useless bargains with recalcitrant Autowalas. They dislike to follow the meter and at times they don't want to take you to your destination, even if you agree with their rates. In cities like Hyderabad, these kind of autowalas will be there for every street. If you're nodding in agreement, there's a neat new way to deal with your nemesis. And mind you, it doesn't involve screaming or empty threats of any kind - all you have to do is sing, as this awesome woman did.American C. Christine Fair wanted to go to the Charminar in Hyderabad and pay fare according to the meter. Enter autowala, who made the mistake of refusing her. Here's what Ms Fair did. She turned on her camera and began a running commentary about the whole incident - in perfect Hindi. "Mein bekaar hoon, I have all day," she told the bemused autowala. And then she began to sing Bollywood songs. The incredible footage is here for everyone to watch and repeat."It's taken me some 20 years to figure out this technique to get an auto or a taxi driver in India to take me to my destination with the meter on," she writes on YouTube. And to say her technique is brilliant would be an understatement. We're sure once you watch the video, you'll be impressed too.Watch and learn peeps, this is how it's done. - Manohar

If you are depressed or suffering from troubling memories, scientists suggest playing video games to get ease from that stress. To prove this, the researchers conducted two experiments. They examined the participants by allowing them to view films that contained scenes of traumatic content (for example, footage highlighting the dangers of drunk driving) as a way of experimentally inducing intrusive memories. After 24 hours that are asked to return to the lab. In the first experiment, half of the participants had their memories of the film reactivated by viewing selected stills from the film footage, followed by a 10-minute filler task, and then 12 minutes of playing the computer game Tetris. The other participants completed only the filler task and then sat quietly for 12 minutes. The researchers concluded that participants who had their memories reactivated and played Tetris experienced significantly fewer intrusive memories in a diary over the next week than the participants who came to the lab and simply sat quietly for the equivalent period of time. The results were published in the journal Psychological Science.By Lizitha

After Kashmiri Militants’ Group Photo, Ex-spy made shocking revelations July 04, 2015 11:19

Just a day after a group photo of smiling young Kashmiri men, allegedly terror recruits in army fatigues is being widely circulated on Facebook, one of the most influential and high ranking intelligence officers of India has bombed an allegation that Indian intelligence agencies have over the years, often paid militants and separatists, along with mainstream politicians and political parties in the Kashmir Valley. In the first ever admission of its kind, former RAW Chief AS Dulat asked, "So what's wrong? What is there to be so shocked or scandalized by. It's done the world over."Talking about his controversial book: ”Kashmir - The Vajpayee years”, Mr Dulat elaborated that the Indian government had quite often paid for the air fares, medical treatment and general upkeep of even hardened pro-Pakistan separatists like Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Saying that India's spooks had been in touch with everyone "Separatists and militants", Mr Dulat also argued that one of India's most wanted terrorists Syed Salahuddin had been in touch with him and was ready to leave Pakistan and return to India. Defending the use of money in the Kashmir valley, he said it was done in the hope of engaging militants and separatists and also to compete for influence with the ISI. "Corrupting someone with money is more ethical and smarter than killing him," Mr Dulat said wryly. Before that on Friday, a photo featured a group of 11 men seem to be holding AK 47 rifles did rounds in social media. The photo was taken at an unknown location. The police in Jammu and Kashmir allege that the men belong to the terror group Hizbul Mujahideen, and are active in south Kashmir. The image has caught the attention of security forces, who call it an attempt to glorify terror and draw in more men. They say they will block the sites where the image was uploaded. The police have in the past blocked pages for "spreading anti-national content."Among the men in the photograph is a former personal security guard to a minister, who had run away with two rifles in March. The police say one of them is a top Hizbul Mujahideen operative. - Manohar

Here’s the reason to avoid restaurant food! July 04, 2015 09:36

Many like to eat food at restaurants without knowing its disadvantages. Research revealed that people who eat at restaurants or fast food centres end up consuming about 200 additional calories than eaten at home. "People who ate at full-service restaurants consumed significantly more cholesterol per day than people who ate at home," said researcher professor Ruopeng An from University of Illinois. "This extra intake of cholesterol, about 58 milligrams per day, accounts for 20 percent of the recommended upper bound of total cholesterol intake of 300 milligrams per day," he added. Fast-food and restaurant diners consumed about 10 grams more total fat, and 3.49 grams and 2.46 grams, respectively, more saturated fat than those who dined at home. "The American Heart Association recommends limiting the amount of saturated fats one eats to less than 5 to 6 percent of one's total daily calories. That means that if one needs about 2,000 calories a day, less than 120 calories, or 13 grams, should come from saturated fats," the researcher said. The study, reported in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, analysed eight years of nationally representative data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, collected from 18,098 adults living in the US. Menstrual abnormalities worsen bone health July 04, 2015 09:32

A new study revealed that women sports persons with menstrual cycle abnormalities may be at greater risk of bone stress injuries and fractures. The researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital revealed that women with symptoms known as the "female athlete triad", a spectrum of symptoms that include low energy availability, menstrual cycle abnormalities, and low bone mineral density, are at an increased risk of bone loss."Any combination of these conditions can lead to premature bone loss in females," said lead study author and orthopaedic surgeon Elizabeth Matzkin from Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, US. The findings showed that both athletes and non athletes participating in any sports and exercise can develop symptoms of the female athlete triad. They also found that female athletes diagnosed with poor nutrition or low energy availability are two to four times more likely to sustain a sports-related injury. "Proper nutrition and energy balance are key to staying healthy in athletes of all ages. But maximizing bone health when you are young is paramount to your bone health later in life," Matzkin said. The study was published in the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS). By Lizitha
