Golden Globes 2016: ‘The Revenant’ and ‘The Martian’ tops

At The 73rd annual Golden Globes yesterday, the Revenant swept the winners board.

Leonardo DiCaprio, was selected as the ‘Best Actor’, while Alejandro González Iñárritu was awarded the trophy in the ‘Best Director’ cateogory , at the ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

The biggest award of the night was owned by the Revenant, as it was named the Best Picture Drama, beating out Carol, Mad Max: Fury Road, Room, and highly touted Spotlight.

When DiCaprio, 41, was selected as the Best Actor, he was visibly emotional, while walking towards the stage. ‘What an incredible honor,' he began. 'Wow, that meant a lot.

'To the other fantastic performances in this category, you guys were incredible,' he added graciously.

“Two years ago we were immersed in nature [during filming]. This movie was about trust and no one was more deserving of our trust than our director. The depths to which he and the entire crew went to make this film were incredible.”

Feeling emotional further, Dicaprio said, “'I want to thank all of the indigenous people in the world. It is time we protect your land and heard your voices. It is time we recognize your history and protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people who are out there to exploit them.”

The victory last night, makes Leo, the front runner for the Oscars next month, which he is nominated in the same category for Best Actor.

Leo took the stage, along with Alejandro and accepted the award for Best Picture Drama.

He mentioned mention indigenous peoples, “Sorry, just a lot of kissing here. I forgot to thank all the Native Americans who made this possible, I cannot say how happy I am to have survived, making this film,' he added of the film, which was shot in remote places in the wilderness, where the cast and crew suffered in severe weather for months.

Last year, Inarritu even had a similar run at the Academy Awards with the best-picture winning Birdman, he won only a share of best screenplay at last year's Globes.
Referring to the film's arduous shoot in the Canadian Rockies, Inarattu opined that, pain is temporary, but the film is forever.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence took home Golden Globe yesterday, for the 4th time.

The 25-year-old gushed about her Joy director, who helmed three of her films to garner her awards gold, David O. Russell.

'Where are you David?' She began. 'Every time I'm up here it is because of you. Thank you for choosing me. Thank you for your brilliance. For teaching me. Your love of cinema is so pure.'

'David I love you,' Jennifer concluded her speech, 'I want us to be buried next to each other.'
