Aakash tablet to be exhibited in UN

Aakash Tablet has made it's rounds in the nation already but its popularity has not been limited to Third World countries alone. This extremely aggressively priced tablet is now on its way to the United Nations to represent the “most competitively priced” tablet PC from India.

Hardeep Singh Puri, the Permanent Representative of India to UN, would present the low cost Aakash tablet in a presentation on November 28 in UN which would also have the honor of the presence of the UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-Moon.

CEO of Canada-based Datawind, Suneet Singh Tuli, who has won the tender of Indian Government to manufacture and supply the tablets would also be invited for the grand occasion.

Aakash has been "described as the most competitively priced tablet computer by an Indian-origin entrepreneur," Puri mentioned talking at a news conference while discussing the agenda of the Council under India's presidency. He added that the tablet was not only an extremely frugal innovation in UN terms but also a competitively priced one.

He added that the tablet would be showcased at the UN by the Indian Mission amongst several UN dignitaries including the Secretary General himself.

He also mentioned that the tablets would be distributed to some UN member states in the event.

It is known that Datawind which had earlier won the tender in 2010, has improved the build and performance of the tablet greatly while maintaining the price at $49 dollars. The current version, which would go on sale starting November 11, runs Android 4.0 powered by a 1GHz processor and a battery-time of four hours. The capacitive screen feature has also been added.

But the organization received a big blow after the IIT at Rajasthan had rejected the devices made by Datawind.
