Frustrated with the upward and down ward surges of the fuel prices there are times when most feel to leave the vehicle at home and move by public transport. Atleast I have felt and hope many would agree with me. The news from Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (MVIT), Bengaluru, delights one and all. The hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel gives us much encouragement to face the hurdles today.

A team of 11 engineers from the college have developed a prototype which almost runs for 240 kilo metrtes with just one litre of fuel. The prototype is to partcipate in Shell Eco Marathon, scheduled to be held from July 4 to 7 at Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The deleveloping group named Team Inferno and the prototype named as Drona is all set to knock records down.

Drona’s prototype, as of now, can accommodate one person. The extraordinary mileage is achieved with a modified Bajaj engine, aluminium chassis, electronic fuel injection, aerodynamic design, direct transmission and other factors.

However this is not the end say the team, they propose to go further and make this commercially viable with ideal sponsors. “We know there is a great potential. With the help of sponsors, we are determined to come up with another version that can deliver better mileage in city conditions,” said one of the team members. (With inputs from internet-AarKay)
