Coronal mass ejection from sun to hit earth?

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) has captured a breath-taking high definition photograph of Sun and a spot has raised several questions among the scientists. Named as AR1476, the active region visible as dark spots are the light generated by plasma in sun’s photosphere. The observatory has said that the sunspots appered dark as sun’s magnetic field is expanding from interior.

On closely looking at the intense magnetic activity, one can see the complex magnetic arcs, which are called as coronal loops. They are filled with multi-million degree plasma. And guess what? The flare activity of coronal loops increase when the magnetic field lines come in contact.

Further, space weather forecasters are expecting that coronal mass ejection would be launched in earth’s direction and if something like that happens, then geomagnetic storms will erupt that will create strong electrical currents in the atmosphere.
