Today is 'National Technology Day 2012'

It is rightly said that the Science of Today is the Technology of Tomorrow and in turn becomes the history for future generations. The nation gears up to celebrate the National Technology Day (NTD) 2012 as usual on May 11 (Friday), marking the anniversary of successful  mastering of nuclear weapons Pokhran II. Annually this day is marked as the NTD, since 1998. Technology means a lot to all walks of life and segments of the economy. However Defense Technology marks a cumulative utility as it protects the nation from the world. It is rightly said by the father of the nation,` I claim that in losing the spinning wheel we lost our left lung. We are, therefore, suffering from galloping consumption. The restoration of the wheel arrests the progress of the fell disease.’ True to his saying, Mahatma Gandhi did combat the whites with his Indian linen.

Today is the day when technological breakthroughs like mastering of nuclear weapons technology (Pokharan II) through a series of controlled tests at Pokharan, test firing of the indigenously developed Trishul missile and test flight of the indigenous aircraft Hansa-3 where achieved by this nation of billions. These diverse and significant achievements on a single day, in a way, indicated the resurgence of Indian Technology. To commemorate the achievements the government planned the Technology Day.  The thirty fifth President of the United States John F Kennedy is quoted as, `Man is still the most extraordinary computer of all.’ Technology becomes a tool in the hand after taking shape as an idea in the mind.

In general NTD is celebrated on May 11 every year to honor the achievements of the nation in the field of science and technology and also to inspire the younger generation into working for the development of the nation through science. Though after the initial nuclear trials the nation has taken a self-moratorium on nuclear test further, we are not behind. This day marks technological, institutional and manpower strengths for the nation to become the Super power of the coming age. NTD is an occasion to recollect the achievements of India in the field of science and technology and to acknowledge the association that has helped and existed, between the scientific communities of India and the United States. As Indians take pride in being a nation of billions and being a reckoning force on the technology fronts. Saare Jahan Se Achchha, yeh India hamaara!!  (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
