PM On The Legitimacy Of CBI

The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said today that the Government will look in to the matter of legality of CBI 'seriously' and 'promptly'.

While talking in the conference of dealing with the corruption, PM asked the investigating agency to step forward cautiously in case of the policy decisions.

In the wake of Guahati High Court’s observation that CBI’s creation is not constitutional, The Prime Minister also assured that the Government will do all that is necessary to establish the need and legitimacy of CBI.  He also added that the matter will be considered by the Highest Court also.  That means the verdict of the Guahati High Court will be challenged in the Supreme Court.  And also in the opinion of Manmohan Singh the CBI’s role is necessary for which the Government will make efforts to establish it.

The Supreme Court on Saturday stayed High Court’s order as the accused in the sensational case is trying to halt the criminal proceedings with the help of the judgment.

The Prime Minister warned that the scope of corruption also goes up along with the growth of economy.  He also warned CBI to be vigil to prevent corruption in the country and at the same time ensure honesty, transparency and accountability.
