“Yes, We Made Mistakes, Will Introspect”: Kejriwal After Delhi Loss April 29, 2017 10:31

The Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, today admitted that the party had made mistakes in the past and added that there was need to introspect and course correct after the defeat in MCD polls. Kejriwal, who held a meeting of AAP cabinet ministers, councilors and MLAs after the MCD loss, said “yes, we made mistakes”. He further took his statement to the micro blogging site, twitter: In the last 2 days .... pic.twitter.com/0quqxJtNAt — Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) April 29, 2017 Based on his interactions with volunteers and voters in the last two days, it was clear that it was “time to go back to the drawing board”, adding that there was “need for action and not excuses”. Earlier, two days ago, after the results of the Delhi civic polls were announced, Kejriwal and a few party members close to him blamed the electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the party’s disastrous electoral performances. In fact, they had started blaming EVMs for “a possible loss” even before last Sunday's Delhi civic polls. In last week’s election to the municipal corporation in Delhi which it rules, the AAP came a poor second, managing only 48 of the 272 seats. The BJP swept the polls; results were counted on Wednesday. As the party went into a huddle, top leaders came to the conclusion that it is, at this point, tough to compete against the “growing stature” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose personal appeal to voters is seen as the main reason for his party's huge score. The BJP, which held all three corporations of Delhi for the last 10 years, won them again - and with more seats. An AAP member, Kumar Vishwas, whom Kejriwal has described as “being family”, said “We can’t blame EVMs. They aren’t the main issue. The main issue is mistrust.” The AAP “needs to introspect” as “the connect with voters was missing,” added Vishwas. The party’s MP from Punjab Bhagwant Mann also said that it is wrong to blame the machines for AAP’s defeat. “Instead of finding faults with EVMs, it is time to start finding faults in the party,” said Mann. While some were open with their criticism, other high profile members took the blame for the electoral losses and quit from party posts. AAP’s Punjab unit in-charge Sanjay Singh and organisation-building head Durgesh Pathak resigned from their respective posts. Their offers to resign come on top of the resignation on Wednesday of AAP’s Delhi unit chief Dilip Pandey from his post, and of legislator Alka Lamba, who took responsibility for the AAP’s defeat. SC Dismisses Kerala Govt’s Plea For Death Penalty To Convict In Soumya Rape Case April 28, 2017 19:18

The Supreme Court, today had dismissed the curative petition filed by the government of Kerala in the Soumya rape and murder case. A six-member bench of the Supreme Court, was headed by Chief Justice of India JS Khehar. A plea was filed by the Kerala State Government, in the apex court, challenging the earlier order of a three-member bench of the top court. Earlier, death sentence was awarded to the accused, Govindaswamy, by the trial court and the Kerala High Court, which is now squashed by the Supreme court. However, the apex court bench set aside the murder charges against him and curtailed his death penalty to a seven-year imprisonment while also upholding life imprisonment in rape charges. On September 15, a review petition was filed against the order of the bench, which was dismissed by the court on November 11 after an open court hearing. The state, consequently, filed a curative petition on January 7. The state government has sought an open hearing on the curative petition, which is drafted by Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi. If the bench decides to dismiss the petition at first sight, then there will not be a chance for open hearing. The apex court, earlier, quashing his death penalty, had noted that there were no direct proofs to conclude that Govindaswamy killed Soumya by pushing her off the train. The government, in its petition, has pleaded not to give a benefit of doubt to Govindaswamy since all other evidences are against him. Soumya was allegedly raped and then pushed out of the train by Govindaswamy on February 1, 2011 while travelling on Kochi-Shoranur Passenger train. She succumbed to her injuries at Thrissur Medical College on February 6. SUPRAJA

Mumbai-based model Preeti Jain who was sentenced to three years in jail, yesterday, after being found guilty of plotting to kill filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, gets bail. The city civil and sessions court also imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000. Preeti Jain’s request later for bail was granted by the court and her sentence was suspended for four weeks. She has been accused of hiring gangster Arun Gawli’s aide Naresh Pardeshi to eliminate director Bhandarkar in 2005, almost a year after she filed a rape case against the filmmaker. She was convicted along with other two accused. Immediately after the ruling, Jain sought suspension of sentence. Naresh Pardeshi and his aide Shivram Das have also been sentenced to three years on charges of helping her. She had allegedly given a “supari” of 75, 000 rupees to a gangster of the Arun Gaali gang. A case was registered on September 10, 2005. Earlier in July 2004, Jain lodged a complaint alleging that Bhandarkar had raped her several times between 1999 and 2004 under the pretext of marrying her and casting her as an actress in his movies. However, In 2012, Preeti Jain’s rape case against the filmmaker was canceled by a court after she said she was dropping the charge. Madhur Bhandarkar, is known for films like Page 3, Traffic Signal, Fashion and Chandni Bar. After the court’s verdict, Bhandarkar tweeted without taking names, “Some things are better left unsaid! Some things are better left as they are. Life moves on, so have I.” Somethings are better left unsaid! Somethings are better left as they are. RBI’s Intervention Plea in Tata-Docomo Case Rejected By Delhi HC April 28, 2017 18:26

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s intervention plea was rejected by the Delhi High Court in the Tata-Docomo case, today. The petition was rejected wile taking on record the terms of consent of the settlement between Japanese telecom major NTT Docomo and Tata Sons over the payment of USD 1.17 billion damages to the former. The verdict was given by Justice S Muralidhar, opposing the settlement as well as the damages awarded to Docomo by the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). The court stated that, it has given detailed directions in its judgment and disposed of the plea by Docomo seeking enforcement of the LCIA award. However, the court reserved its judgement on March 15. Both the firms, Docomo and Tata had gone for a negotiation as the Indian company, was not able to find a buyer for the Japanese telecom major’s 26.5% stake in their joint venture, Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL), when Docomo exited from the venture within five years. Under the shareholding agreement between them, Tata was to find a buyer who would purchase the Japanese company’s stake at minimum 50% of the acquisition price, which came to around Rs 58.45 per share. The other option was Tata purchasing the shares at the fair market value, which was Rs 23.44. However, this was not acceptable to Docomo and it had opted for arbitration. Therefore, the LCIA in June 2016, awarded damages of USD 1.17 billion in favor of Docomo for Tata’s inability to find a buyer as per the shareholding agreement. Docomo had moved the Delhi High Court for enforcement of the award after Tata cited refusal of permission by the RBI to make the payment. During the proceedings, the RBI had contended that once it had denied permission for transferring the money overseas, the issue had attained finality. Its decision has not been challenged till now, said RBI. The RBI, in its intervention application, had contended that the shareholding agreement was illegal and objected to the award of damages. The Docomo’s shares in TTSL can be purchased only at the fair market value. The Indian central bank had later also opposed the settlement arrived at between Tata and Docomo. Tata and Docomo, under the settlement agreement between the two companies, had decided to settle their two-year-old dispute regarding TTSL with the Indian company withdrawing its objections to the enforcement of the award. Tata had already deposited USD 1.17 billion with the high court. The Japanese company in turn had said it will “suspend its related enforcement proceedings in the United Kingdom and the United States” for a period of six months. Huge Costume Research For Chiru’s Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy April 28, 2017 17:00

Now that Mega Star, Chiranjeevi has taken up the story of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, his reins date the to mid 1800s, so the costumes are a tough task. Megastar’s 150th movie has come and gone, and now the focus is on the upcoming flick. Like Mega Power Star and Chiru’s son, Ram Charan already announced already, from August, the Mega Star’s 151st film, under Surender Reddy’s direction is going to be launched. Now, a new thing that is keeping the whole team on toes, is his costumes for the new movie. Earlier, Tollywood directors, like Gunasekhar and Krish opted for some historic look-laced costumes for their Rudramadevi and Gautamiputra Satakarni movies. As these stories date back to 600 years prior, anything that looked like a folklore costume suited them. The Britishers, by 1800, have already started ruling India and then we have many other European businessmen present here in the country selling their apparel. Dressing style and costume designs have got altered big time then. They have neither historical look nor the modern wear which are wearing now. To find out how the costumes should look like in this film, the director, Surender Reddy is said to be doing huge research. Despite roping in a couple of happening fashion designers, a look for the movie, has not finalized for the big Telugu pride, Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. MM Keeravani Music and Background Music holds the strongest feel. The VFX were improved than Baahubali : The Beginning. The Visual effects should be given the best thing in the movie. Baahubali, Devasena and shivagami characters are given the priority in the movie. The political drama in the second half is good. Rajamouli’s classy vision and conceiving of scenes, first half, interval episode, background music, characterizations and actors The only minus point is the movie slows down in second half and climax appear extended. TRS Proves Its Strength At State Public Meeting In Warangal April 28, 2017 10:35

On the occasion of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party’s 16th formation day, the party has once again proved its strength with a massive public meeting at Prakashreddypet in Warangal, yesterday. An estimated 15 lakh people had turned up for the public meeting. This is the first such public meeting the TRS has held after coming to power. The individual who would be more than satisfied with the response would be none other than the party supremo and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Though, the CM did not make any new announcements, his speech gave a boost to the party workers, gearing up for the 2019 elections. KCR added that there are several people who interrupted the development of Telangana in united Andhra Pradesh, and they are still trying to do it even today. The Telangana CM added that, “We must unite to fight them and achieve ‘Bangaru Telangana’ we all dream of.” None of them believed in the party, when it was formed 16 years ago, but it has achieved its target of creating a separate state of Telangana, and is currently running the government for three years now. The TRS Chief addressed the huge crowd saying, “All the elections conducted after the formation of Telangana have been in our favor, and 2019 will not be any different.” He even made fun of those who say the TRS was losing public support. KCR added that “During the GHMC elections, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader K Narayana said he would cut his ear if the TRS won the elections. We all know what happened. Some other person is growing his beard saying he will shave only after the TRS rule is completed. All these people can cut or grow whatever they want after the election results in 2019,” he said. KCR who was elated by the response of the people who turned up for the meeting said, it was because of them, the TRS is in this position today. He even challenged other parties in TS to conduct a public meeting of these proportions. He also urged the farmers to come together, and form committees at each level and create a strong community that has the power to decide the price of the produce they have worked hard for. The CM claimed that the state had struggled hard to get rid of irrigation, electricity and drinking water problems. The welfare schemes that are being implemented give power to the common man, in creating a stronger state. KCR declared further that,“Until the last drop of my blood, I will fight to achieve Bangaru Telangana.” KCR also accused Congress of not caring for the people in power, but now trying to put obstructions in the government’s efforts to build irrigation projects for the people. Sidelights Of The Meeting: Flowery Welcome Flowers were sprinkled through motorized paragliders on people reaching the TRS’ public meeting venue at Prakashreddypet in Hanamkonda. Warangal West MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar said the flowers were sprinkled on the orders of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. “KCR told us that giving a proper reception to guests is part of Telangana’s culture. Respect guests, he told us. That is why are showering people with flowers,” he said. Colour Me Pink It was pink all the way, with supporters making their way to the public meeting venue on vehicles decorated with flowers and TRS flags. Bicycles, tractors, trucks, cars, bikes, autos, even trains, had a touch of pink as the guests braved the hot sun and turned up in lakhs.   Anything Goes Several leaders joined their supporters and came on tractors and buses. Ministers Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Jupalli Krishna Rao, Laxma Reddy and others came on tractors with supporters from their respective constituencies. Leaders In A Jam Traffic came to a standstill for several km on the Hyderabad-Warangal and Karimnagar-Warangal roads. Traffic jams spread to several km. Minister Etala Rajender, MP B. Vinod and other TRS leaders were among those who were stuck in traffic for hours. Warangal is also believed to be TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao’s lucky charm as the region never faltered his trust.
