Cisco to cut 4,000 jobs amid growth slowdown February 15, 2024 20:27

Cisco to cut 4,000 jobs amid growth slowdown:- Cisco Systems, the leading manufacturer of networking equipment, is facing the challenge of a major slowdown in corporate technology spending, leading to a significant impact on its sales growth. As a result, the company has announced a restructuring plan that involves cutting over 4,000 jobs, which accounts for approximately 5 percent of its global workforce. This move is aimed at reducing costs and aligning the company with current market conditions. The restructuring plan is expected to result in costs of approximately $800 million for Cisco. Additionally, the company has revised down its annual revenue target, now forecasting a range between $51.5 billion and $52.5 billion, compared to the previously projected $53.8 billion to $55 billion. This downward adjustment in revenue expectations has caused Cisco's shares to decline by more than 5 percent in after-hours trading. Chuck Robbins, the CEO of Cisco, explained that the current economic uncertainty has caused customers to postpone orders and reassess their equipment needs. This caution and careful evaluation of investments are a response to the economic concerns faced by organizations. Cisco's announcement is consistent with the broader trend in the tech industry, as many companies are implementing workforce reductions in response to economic challenges. In 2024 alone, nearly 35,000 job cuts have been announced across the sector, according to data from Layoffs.fyi, a platform tracking tech layoffs. Looking ahead, Cisco anticipates sales of $12.1 billion to $12.3 billion for the fiscal third quarter, ending in April, which falls short of analysts' average estimates. The company also expects adjusted earnings per share in the range of 84 cents to 86 cents, below the consensus prediction of 92 cents. These projections reflect the impact of the current economic climate on Cisco's business performance. In conclusion, Cisco Systems is taking steps to address the challenges stemming from the slowdown in corporate technology spending by implementing a restructuring plan that includes significant job cuts. The company is focused on reducing costs and adapting to the current market environment. However, the revised revenue expectations and lower earnings outlook indicate the ongoing impact of economic uncertainty on Cisco's business operations.

CAG's report on Kaleshwaram Project February 15, 2024 20:19

CAG's report on Kaleshwaram Project:- On Friday, February 15, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) released a new report that unveils the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project's escalating cost. The report reveals that the project's cost is expected to surpass Rs 1.4 lakh crore (1,47,427.41), significantly higher than the projected cost of Rs 81,911 crores presented to the Central Water Commission (CWC). The Kaleshwaram project, which was a prominent initiative of the previous Telangana government led by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has faced controversy and has been attributed as a key factor in the BRS' defeat in the state Assembly elections held in November 2023. Additionally, the CAG report highlights that out of the total expenditure of ₹86,788.06 crore incurred by March 2022, 64.3% (₹55,807.86 crore) was financed through off-budget borrowings raised by the Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project Corporation Limited (KIPCL). The BRS government established KIPCL as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to manage the project's financial matters. According to the report, there is a possibility of contractors receiving undue benefits amounting to at least ₹2,684.73 crore for the supply and commissioning of pumps, motors, and other equipment. The main barrages of KLIP, which were launched on October 28, 2023, have faced criticism from the Opposition parties, including the Congress and the BJP. They argue that the sinking of piers is evidence of poor management. The Telangana Congress has even promised a judicial inquiry into alleged irregularities and corruption surrounding the project. Since coming to power, they have been highly critical of it. A previous report by the CAG, released in March 2021, highlighted that 65% of the loans guaranteed by the state government were related to two specific projects: Mission Bhagiratha and the Kaleshwaram Project. The report also pointed out that many institutions lacked the resources to repay these loans, as the Kaleshwaram Project, for instance, did not generate significant revenue due to the low rates charged for irrigation water. Additionally, the current report reveals that the Telangana government has not given administrative approval for the project as a whole. Instead, they have issued 73 separate approvals, amounting to a total of ₹1,10,248.48 crore. The report also mentioned that there was a lack of information from the Government regarding the project's funding pattern. Additionally, it stated that the project's benefit-cost ratio (BCR) was exaggerated. (Video Source: News 360 Telugu)

Revanth Reddy also took a dig at the BJP for demanding a CBI probe into the matter. Chandrashekhar Rao of dismissing the issues and criticized the BJP for demanding a CBI probe. The government plans to present reports and hold a debate on the corruption in the Assembly. The openings were minimal and there was no growth in the numbers on Saturday and Sunday. The film crashed down badly on Monday leaving everyone in huge losses. People Media Factory believed the film so much and they spent lavishly on the film. The film's final budget touched Rs 70 crores including the remunerations and expenses. The makers managed to sell off the music and the Hindi rights. The satellite and digital rights were unsold. People Media Factory releases their films on their own and the theatrical risk falls on them. Now, Eagle would be a huge loss venture considering the budgets and the given deals. Though People Media Factory is capable of bearing the loss, Eagle will be a huge dent for them in their journey. The team is in plans to close the pending losses and recover some of the losses. Farmers' Delhi Chalo Agitation hits the National Capital February 13, 2024 20:37

Farmers' Delhi Chalo Agitation hits the National Capital:- Rakesh Tikait, a prominent figure in the protests against the government's "black farm laws" in 2020/21, has expressed support for the second 'Delhi Chalo' movement. The agitation commenced on Tuesday, with tear gas being deployed at Shambhu on the Punjab-Haryana border, leading to clashes between farmers and police. Mr. Tikait has issued a cautionary message to the ruling BJP, who are trying to contain the protests that have erupted just weeks before a general election. He stated, "if the government creates any issues for these farmers, we are not far behind. We stand in solidarity with them." Mr. Tikait is the leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, an organization based in Uttar Pradesh that was established by former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. This month, Mr. Singh was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi praising his commitment to the nation's farmers. The BKU is one of the larger farmer federations in the country, and if it joins the ongoing agitation, the magnitude of the challenge faced by the government will significantly escalate. #WATCH | Police use tear gas to disperse protesting farmers at the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border. pic.twitter.com/FtTvSMSVdK — ANI (@ANI) February 13, 2024 Protests are currently taking place nationwide, prompting the government to engage in meaningful discussions with farmers. It is crucial that while engaging in these talks, the government treats the farmers with respect and takes their concerns seriously. The leader of the farmers' movement, Rakesh Tikait, has recently called for a 'Bharat Bandh' on February 16 to further emphasize the demands of the farmers. Last year, Mr. Tikait had warned that if the demand for a legal guarantee on minimum support prices was not addressed, a larger agitation than the one in Delhi would be initiated. This sentiment was echoed in his recent statement in Haryana's Karnal, where he emphasized the need for a movement bigger than the one in Delhi in order to secure a law guaranteeing MSP. The farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' 2.0 movement commenced today, and unfortunately, violence erupted at the Shambhu border crossing. Despite no immediate provocation, a number of shells were fired, marking the first signs of violence. Among the farmers' demands, the enactment of a law guaranteeing MSP is of utmost importance, as it serves as a vital financial support system for farmers during uncertain market conditions. There were also similar demands made during protests four years back. Additional important requests include the reversal of the Electricity Act of 2020, payment to farmers who lost their lives in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri, and the dismissal of legal charges against individuals involved in the previous protest. On Monday evening, two government ministers, including junior Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda, engaged in discussions with farmer leaders to address these and other demands. Some advancements were achieved.
