Gunmen Attack Restaurant in Dhaka, 6 Killed July 02, 2016 10:48

In a massacre incident, heavily armed IS militants attacked Bangladesh's diplomatic zone on Friday night, taking dozens of hostages at a restaurant popular with foreigners. According to police, security forces have freed 18 hostages, out of which 3 injured women were earlier rushed to hospital. 11 people were killed including two police officers and six gunmen. At least 26 people were wounded in the gun battle as security forces cordoned off the area.Ambulances and fire engines were kept on standby. Five of the hostages are Japanese.However, the total number of hostages still remains uncertain. At least nine terrorists shouting "Allahu Akbar" barged into the Holey Artisan Bakery, frequented by diplomats and expatriates, and opened indiscriminate fire at around 9:20 pm on time.They then engaged in a fierce gun battle with Bangladesh security forces and hurled grenades at them. Two policemen were killed and 30 injured in the exchange. The deceased policemen have been identified as officer in-charge of nearby Banani police station, Salahuddin Ahmed and Additional Commissioner of Police Rabiul, identified only by his first name.Police said they have detained two employees of the eatery for questioning. A Bangladeshi man managed to call up his relative and told him to ask police not to fire, as he feared the gunmen would kill them all.He said there were around 20 foreigners present at the restaurant during the attack.MEA sources in New Delhi said they were monitoring the situation in Dhaka and trying to ascertain the details. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was in touch with security agencies over the incident. US President Barack Obama has been briefed by his top counter-terrorism official on the attack in Bangladesh, a White House official said. Mysore Palace Priest Commits Suicide July 02, 2016 10:10

In a shocking incident, a priest from the Mysore Maharaja Palace committed suicide by setting himself ablaze at a deserted place near Irangal in Kurnool district.According to the officials, Balasubramanyam, 54, was one of the priests in the team which solemnized the marriage of the Maharaja of Mysore, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, on July 27. The priest’s family said Balasubramanyam was suffering from diabetes and hypertension. The priest told his family that he was going for a darshan of Guru Raghavendra Swamy at Mantralayam and got into the Basava Express on Wednesday night. But he got down at Irongal station.He went to a deserted place and attempted suicide by dousing himself with petrol. The victim who had serious burns was shifted to the government hospital at Adoni.Balasubramanyam died on Thursday evening. Kosigi SI Bhasha said a case was registered based on a complaint by the deceased's wife Sri Lakshmi. The priest wife said that poor health was the reason for the suicide. Krishna Pushkaralu Expenses too high! July 02, 2016 09:51

Huge amount of work has started for Krishna Pushkaralu which is going to commence from 12th August, 2016 and end on 23rd August, 2016. The expenditure is more than Godavari Pushkaralu. The state government is spending crores for the Pushkaralu. The previous year, it spent about `2,000 crore for the Godavari Pushkaralu.Government has already sanctioned Rs 1,080 crore to various departments for this purpose. It released Rs 231 crore to the irrigation department, Rs 133 crore to the municipal corporations, Rs 80 crore to the tourism department, Rs 318 crore to the roads & buildings department, Rs 140 crore to the panchayat raj, Rs 136 crore to the CRDA, Rs 30 crore to the endowments department and Rs 10 crore to the municipalities.Krishna Pushkaralu will be conducted in three districts - Krishna, Guntur and Kurnool. Of the Rs 1,080 crore, a sum of Rs 526 crore went to Krishna district, Rs 410 crore to Guntur district and Rs144 crore to Kurnool district. The departments are still sending fresh proposal for release another Rs 1,000 crore. The main works being taken up are of constructing the ghats, laying of roads in cities and municipalities of the three districts, and works related to public health service, toilets, water supply and approach roads to ghats. The endowments department has taken up the renovation of temples in these three districts.The department has estimated the expenditure for Krishna Pushkaralu at Rs 4,256.68 crore. Hyderabad traffic police suspended 278 Licenses July 01, 2016 10:32

Hyderabad traffic police enforcing the Supreme Court guidelines to curb the traffic violations in the city has till now suspended 278 licenses of the drivers for major violations. In a media release issued in Hyderabad on Thursday, Traffic Additional Commissioner of Police informed that they have cancelled 217 licenses of people booked for drunk driving and 61 licenses of people for making other specific violations. The police official said that they were also taking action against violations by auto drivers and cancelling their permits and registration of autos. He also informed that they had registered 129 cases against such violations till now.
