13 persons killed at unmanned rail crossing

At an unmanned railway crossing in Sambalpur, today on Friday, 13 people of whom 12 were women, were killed as the Rourkela-Bhubaneswar intercity express  which was passing by a unmanned railway crossing had T-boned a rickshaw.

Six people who had been admitted in the hospital were in serious condition.
The three wheeler goods carrier was overloaded with laborers who were being taken to the farm in the open trolley on the rear. The accident happened at the crossing between Sambalpur and Maneswar station.

This incident had created tension in the area. Locals had also protested against the incident and demanded that a flyover should be constructed at the site to prevent further accidents. They also asked for compensation to be provided to the locals.
